Smooth filing experience

I filed my federal and state taxes using TaxAct Premier this past season. The ordering process on their website was easy to follow, and I got my confirmation email right away. I had a question about some investment income, so I used the chat support. They responded in about 10 minutes and were quite helpful. The software itself was intuitive; it imported my previous year's data without any issues, which saved a lot of time. Everything felt secure, and I received my e-file confirmation quickly after submission. It took about 7 days for my refund to hit my bank account after the IRS accepted it.

Reliable choice for years

I've been using TaxAct for my federal and state filings for about five years now, usually with their Self-Employed package. This year was just as consistent as previous ones. I appreciate that they always have my prior year's info ready for import. It makes the whole process so much faster. I never had to use customer support, so can't comment there, but the software itself is reliable. It's not flashy, but it works, and that's what matters for tax season.

Good for simple taxes

I used TaxAct Deluxe this year. It was pretty straightforward for my federal and state filings. The interface was clear, and it walked me through everything. My only small complaint was that sometimes the help articles were a bit hard to navigate. Overall, it got the job done for a decent price.

How do you pay for TaxAct? Credit card only or are there other options?

D Derek 2 months ago
Mostly credit card I think. They might let you pay out of your refund if you're getting one, but usually there's a fee for that.

Can I import my tax info from last year if I used TurboTax? Or do I have to manually enter everything?

A Anna R. 2 months ago
You can import a PDF of your prior year's return, I did that when I switched. It saves a ton of time.

Yeah, pretty sure most tax software allows that now. It just pulls the main numbers, so you still gotta double-check.

Hey, wondering if TaxAct is actually legit for taxes. I usually use TurboTax but the price hikes are getting wild.

J June Ito 1 month ago
Yeah, I switched from TurboTax last year. It's totally legit, got my refund no problem. Interface is a little different but you get used to it.

It's been around forever. My dad used it for years before I even started doing my own taxes. Never had an issue.

Are there any current discounts for new users? Thinking about trying them out this year.

A Anna Lindqvist 2 months ago
Check their site around late Jan/early Feb, they usually have early bird deals. Sometimes partners like credit card companies have special links too.

I got a pretty sweet deal last year just by signing up for their email list. It popped up in my inbox a couple weeks later.

I'm self-employed, mostly 1099 stuff. Is their self-employed package actually good, or am I better off with something else?

J James Kim 1 month ago
I've used their self-employed version for a few years now. Handles all my 1099-NEC and Schedule C stuff pretty smoothly. It's definitely comprehensive.

It was okay for me, but my income sources are super varied. If you just have 1099s it's probably fine. My friend says it's way easier than H&R Block's for complicated stuff.
